Vibration Therapy for Lymphedema

Vibration Therapy

This is not your grandma’s belt shaker! Some of you know what I am talking about if you are old enough. Humans will be humans, and I think we pretty much have known all along that to move it, we’ve got to shake it up sometimes.

The theory is that a vibration platform shakes the sludge from your LE up. There are vibration platforms out there at various price ranges. It is trial and error as to whether it’s effective. I use the one at my gym for 30 second spurts after my workout. Sometimes I stand, and sometimes I just lay my legs on it.

Sadly I passed by this thing at the gym for over 2 YEARS without knowing it could help me until I found out when one of the CLTs posted in the bigger groups. I said to myself “Hey, my gym has one!!”

One day I asked my coach to show me how to use it. She put it on the strongest strength, and I literally got sick. I became very nauseous, but I did not give up. Never give up on the first try with any experimental tactic. So I dialed it back down and played with different strengths at different settings.

Now it’s a tool in my #LEToolbox. I started on for 2 rounds of 30 seconds on a low setting and built up from there. This particular platform is a Power Plate. You can follow them on Instagram for all sorts of workout ideas.

    1. Yes, I got a vibration platform for Christmas this year, and use it every day. It is really something I look forward to as it helps me relax and recharge.

      1. I am beginning to research these whole body vibration platforms and find they are all over the map in their strength and whether that is good in a lymphie way. What I am surmising is that there are some aimed at athletes and they shake at high hertz/ amplitude/gforce and are like an all over isometric.. I have heard lymph folks use the lower settings and find them restful or they feel good… then there are really pricey ones you find in sports medicine, physical therapist and chiropractor offices that are sonic driven instead of the separate motors and they are low hertz with strong amplitude and g force and that it is the lower hertz 8-12 that get the lymph to ‘open their flaps’ to drain where as the others do overall stimulate circulation and person may need to do it everyday to not feel tight… Is there anyone who knows of any research for lymphedema other than referencing that these platforms are based on the NASA tech for working out n space?
