This is the perfect close for summer to decongest! If you are NEW to lymphedema and no one has told you that food is a potential trigger for swelling, it can definitely be a source for more inflammation. The catch is everyone is different, so the triggers are NOT the same for all.
We all have different reactions based on different factors in our lives. Factors involved include but are not limited to:
- Food allergies
- Co-existing conditions like diabetes, lipedema, etc.
Thus, this is a self-customized challenge for you to choose to reduce your own triggers associated with sugar. While my polls are unscientific, over 150 people responded to the following categories in our group with some additional suggestions.
Based on the most recent poll, the following categories ranked as the top foods people with lymphedema are looking to reduce or completely eliminate.
- Sweets and Pastries (ice cream, candy, chocolate, etc.) – Led the pack with 88 out of 230 votes in the poll.
- Breads, Tortillas, etc.
- Snacks (Potato Chips, etc.)
- Beverages (Sodas, Sweet Tea, etc.)
- Starchy Vegetables
- Sugary Vegetables
- Dressings, Sauces, & Condiments
- You will receive a virtual ribbon number as your identifier in the challenges. Use it as your hashtag in addition to #lymphiestrong #movethatlymph and #feedyourlymph (optional)
