The summer struggle has been no joke with temperatures in the 100+F range much earlier in the summer months than in previous years in my memory. Now we are into the first week of August. I’ve had to pull out all the stops with the #heelexperiment I was doing. So here’s the update.
First, I have recently tried going ketogenic again. Before you get up in arms about Keto, LE&RN has an expo on it in their symposium series about its benefits to the lymphatic system. Obviously no solution fits all. I’m not here to say it will work for you. I’m saying I’m giving it a go, because at least then I know I tried.
This time I have enlisted the help of a dear and trusted friend to help guide me through the process. I’m journaling both food and mood. I have other medical issues aside from LE that I won’t talk about but impact me greatly as well.
I’ve also used kinesiology tape in a different way. Instead of doing long pieces, I’m doing “spots” behind my problematic areas. Last but not least, compression. Nighttime compression seems especially crucial to me in summer months at the hottest time of the year!!!
This is not the best photo, but it illustrates my new tape method. Of course it’s pink. Y’all know me always with the pink. It was hard for me to reach around and trim the edges when it curled. My initial result was being able to wear heels to my best friend’s 20 year work anniversary luncheon at an upscale restaurant in downtown Houston. I wore them all day until about 6 pm. I have this thing where I buy shoes on super sale in the hopes that they will fit. It’s crazy. I know. I know. It still gives me something to strive for in the struggle to maintain reduction.
Yes, I cried on the way to the event. Ruined my mascara but I didn’t care. This one little spark exploded into hope. I was all alone in the car with my favorite lymphedema fight song on. Yes, my fight song. You don’t have one? The one you play when you feel seemingly defeated but it pulls you up. That’s what I’m talking about.

All of this got me thinking that it was time for another advocacy shirt to spread awareness. I think it’s so important as part of my personal theme this summer. I fight a lot of demons, and I pray to have the strength to defeat them all.
