5 Thoughts On An Old Photo

This 2004 photo popped up on my memories recently. It’s a photo that sits on the desk in our office at home. Years ago, I found the original print copy, scanned it, and framed it. The frame actually covers my legs, and you can see why. Most of my blog posts are kind of long, but I will keep this one short and simple.

Here’s 5 things that come to mind when I look at this old photo:

1. My LE never ever has been an issue for my husband. He’s never brought it up other than out of concern or care. Never ridiculed my legs. For that, I am thankful.

2. I can’t believe I’m smiling. My right leg had to have been killing me in Scottsdale, AZ walking around all day in the heat on the golf course. I think we spent 3 or 4 days there, and that was the last full day. I’m smiling because I learned very young to hide the pain. I smiled because that’s what you do when you try to live life and keep moving forward.

3. I’m ashamed I’m not wearing compression. Dad told me over and over to wear it every day, but I never listened. I only wore it when I could hide it. How ironic. When it was the most visible is when I could have used it the most. Now I pay the price.

4. I’m not overweight, but it’s obvious that my leg is disproportionate to the rest of my body. I remember the stares, the comments, the questions, and later the quack doctors. Do you know your leg swollen? Yes, I knew. See #2 above. Now I’m armed with tons of information.

5. I was 30 years old. Time flies so fast. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be bilateral and my age today. Aging with LE just didn’t cross my mind, not like it does now.

I don’t know about any of you reading this right now, but I am ready for a cure! Come on 2019, show us what you got.

Wishing you great lymphatic health,

Lymphie Strong

  1. Compression is so important. I made it part of my routine early on, and it was good, although at 63, my LE is getting slightly harder to control. Or maybe it’s because I am carrying extra weight I never did before and it aggravates the LE.
